The last time I attended the Figma x Bengaluru meetup back in December...well I was just an attendee who wanted to meet new people and be a part of the design community. The first meetup was organised by Rakesh Mondal, Alok Dubey and Aishwarya Naik, and I loved their vision and willingness to do so much towards not just Figma, but the entire design community.
And well, I wanted to do the same! So, I reached out to them (talk to people, it works!), and started helping in organising the second edition of Figma x Bengaluru.
We decided to conduct the event on 14th of February (because of our love towards figma and not because we didn’t have anything to do on 14th :p). This time our aim was to not just invite designers, but to have developers and product managers at the meetup too, because in the end we have to work (pronounced as : argue) with them to get our designs and the perfect product shipped. And not just that, if the devs and PMs could also know about what problems we, as designers face and how we can communicate with each other better.
Wouldn’t that be superb? (and then PV will be equal to nRT :’) ) Okay yes it’s a little (*coughs*) difficult, but we could at least try bridging the gap that exists, right? So, we started with a great icebreaker session where people would need to write 9 problems they face or they think their peers might face, and get them signed if someone relates to it, by meeting everyone around you.
This led to a fun interactive session where a lot of questions were answered and a lot of good points were mentioned (also, devs and designers can you stop trying to kill each other!!!!)
But, we knew this was not gonna be enough to make this meetup different! So, we had an Intro to Figma (with cool shortcuts and tips) hands on session by @_rakeshmondal and @aishwarya naik followed by Shriya Shekhar who talked about how Figma helps her in building products in an Agile environment, and Dhesega, who showed some cool plugins or 3D objects and motion design in Figma.
“Well I’m not sure if we were able to solve the problem or not, but I’m sure that it’s a step in the right direction.”
The meetup finally ended after everyone got their goodie bags ( thanks to BeingUser, Razorpay and Mobile Premier League), had pizzas and carried on the discussions ^_^ .
A big thanks to Microsoft for supporting this meetup and to Accel India for the venue!
We would love to get feedback from you guys on how we can improve and what else we can do in the future.
Thanks for making Figma x Bengaluru 2.0 so fun!
