Building great products require an ace recipe. To possess all the knowledge for a single chef is very difficult. They need the help of other chefs. But being a generalist means you can have your better understanding of the product, and it never does any harm. It also helps while communicating with other stakeholders.
As a product owner/designer, we have to work with multiple stakeholders. And questions like:
“What is Front end development?” “ How the API works?” “ What do you mean my custom designer Calendar widget takes too time to develop?” I mean, what’s with that?😕Please do it!
Admit it! As a designer, the above questions do impale our minds. Designers crave to understand the problem before jumping to its solution. It’s in our DNA. But when it comes to coding and dealing with developers, it feels like dipping the toes in the water.
Also, when it comes to an understanding of the business, most of the designers & developers struggle. I mean, forget about understanding the core product metrics. Understanding the product’s basic growth metrics feels like discovering some alien slang.
Now when your Product manager says that we wanted to build this because of the Business requirement. The soul inside of the curious designer’s mind is not able to challenge those decisions.
If we browse blogs on well designed and curated Medium site, we can’t unsee some blogs with titles like "Future of designing the product with Product & Business," etc.
Honestly, the future of building products is not just on the shoulder of one stakeholder but on the shared trilogy of design, product, & engineering. It is equally quintessential for all the stakeholders to understand each other process to build the products.
In today's time, working with developers meh coding 💻, understanding the product metrics, and the design process is not rocket science.
We only need a basic understanding of the coding and our very own curious mindset 🤗 to understand the business.
And when it comes to bridging the gap between designers and developers, we can't think of any better name than Figma.
In the upcoming Figma meetup, we are going to have an open discussion around the business understanding of design. Also, how to make the product with both user and business mindset.
So if you happen to be a designer, business owner, or a techie, and wanted to share your knowledge with the community, please join us on 14th Feb.
In the meetup, we guarantee that you will find the flavor of design, engineering, & product. Each stakeholder can share and learn each other processes. This will helps us in building an excellent recipe for future products.
